Department of international economics
The history of the Department of International Economics dates back to 1937, when there was a need to deepen the organizational and economic training of engineers at the Kiev Polytechnic Institute. Then the department was called – the Department of Organization of Production and Industrial Economics. At different times the department was headed by: IE Rosenberg, EM Balakin, MM Leach, VF Shudra, AE Rosenplenter. It is on the basis of the department, in fact, the Faculty of Management and Marketing was created. On July 1, 2002, in connection with the opening of the specialty “International Economics”, the Department of Economics and Organization of Machine-Building Production was renamed the Department of International Economics. From 1998 to 2009 the department was headed by the founder of the specialty, Doctor of Economics, Professor VG Gerasimchuk.
From 2009 to 2016, the department was headed by the Dean of the Faculty of Management and Marketing, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Professor OA Gavrish. And since 2016 it has been headed by Doctor of Economics, Professor SV Voitko.

Among the key tasks of scientific and pedagogical activities of the department:
training of highly qualified economists, competitive in the domestic and world labor markets,
who successfully navigate the trends of science and technology,
own computer programs,
know several foreign languages,
who have their own opinion and respect the opinion of others.
Teaching is conducted in Ukrainian and English.
Students studying in the educational program “International Economics” will be able to:
analyze the external and internal environment of the enterprise;
to develop strategies for business development;
make economic calculations and justify innovation and investment projects;
to form mechanisms and evaluate the effectiveness of international scientific and technical cooperation;
solve accounting and analytical tasks related to international commercial transactions;
organize, control and coordinate the implementation of international contracts and projects;
take into account the peculiarities of the modern world and national economy in business;
to substantiate the directions of economic and foreign economic policy of the state.
Graduates of the educational program “International Economics” have the opportunity to work as specialists and heads of economic departments of enterprises of various organizational and legal forms, experts and consultants on foreign economic issues, advisers and representatives in international organizations, chambers of commerce, international firms, multinational corporations, joint ventures , embassies, government agencies.
The teaching of economic disciplines with appropriate methodological support is carried out by highly qualified teachers, including 6 doctors of sciences and 14 candidates of sciences. Information technologies are actively used in the preparation and conduct of lectures, practical and seminar classes (electronic manuals, automated learning systems, distance learning, e-mail, teachers’ websites).
The department organizes scientific and practical conferences on international scientific and technical cooperation and enterprise management. Research work on current economic issues with the broad involvement of graduate students, teachers and students. Annual cathedral olympiads in international economics and a competition of scientific works are held, the winners of which take part in all-Ukrainian olympiads and competitions.
The department maintains creative ties with the faculties of economics of leading technical universities of Ukraine (Lviv, Kharkiv, Donetsk, Sevastopol, Dnepro), Latvia, Bulgaria, Germany, Lithuania, Macedonia, Norway, Estonia, Poland, France, Finland, Hungary, Czech Republic, Romania, Kazakhstan, the Slovak Republic.
